Seminar: Slow transitions Exploring ways to connect while on tour or as an artist in residence

Wednesday 8 November 2023 at 12–14
Jokistudio, Manilla. Itäinen Rantakatu 64, Turku

The seminar takes place during Turku International Puppetry Festival (8.–12.11.2023) and is a free admission hybrid event that will be live streamed via IMPULSE! Project’s Youtube account.

In the context of the Creative Europe project IMPULSE! – New Focus on Puppetry and Visual Theatre Aura of Puppets hosts a seminar regarding social, ecological and psychological sustainability of working abroad or away from home as an artist.

The Seminar discusses the following questions: How can artists and presenters expand the idea of the conventional tour reduced to a mere short visit? How to establish a slower mindset when it comes to touring and what kind of resources does this mindset require? What can residence directors and artists do to promote (long-term) connections with the local community? How to connect with the audience outside the performance?

The seminar dives into the thematic with three short introductions given by the panellists. The speakers include Bek Berger, Artistic Director of the New Theatre Institute of Latvia and curator of the International Festival of Contemporary Performance, Homo Novus, Leena Kela, director of the Saari Residence, performance artist, artistic director of the New Performance Turku Biennale, Miradonna Sirkka, circus artist and founding member of the collective Recovery Laboratory.
